Wrapping Up 2024
Like all the years before, towards the end of the year (or beginning of the new one), I like to reflect on what I have done and achieved during the past year and look forward to the next one. You can consider it my yearly retrospective to make sure I am always moving ahead and improving (which was also a main reason to start this blog).
For some reason I feel that 2024 was a rather bad year, mostly because I can't really think of many things that I achieved this year. So I feel that productivity was at a low level even though I did start a lot of things, but they just didn't work out as I expected or hoped.
First of all, I did create a Git course. It was the first course I ever made and it didn't turn out that good. After I uploaded it to Udemy, I noticed that their pricing policy doesn't allow me to define whatever price I want, but instead I have to stick with their price tiers. Since even the lowest tier was higher than I would feel comfortable with asking for the course, I ended up putting it up there for free. I did however recently increase the price to the lowest tier. I don't expect anyone to actually buy the course, since there are many other courses, which are probably better.
I do intend on creating a new course in 2025, but I don't intend to put it at Udemy, as the topic will be about Lombok, so I believe it will be a rather small course again, and I will share my opinion about it. I don't think it makes sense to ask money for a short opinionated course. Instead the course will be available on my YouTube account for free. Which is something I also did this year, I did start uploading more videos to my YouTube account, as I started to make videos about my process of game development. All these sessions are also livestreamed on twitch, although nobody really watches them.
I guess that my Twitch and YouTube channels are very similar to this blog post, I started them more to force myself to try something new and stick with it, rather than really to get someone to watch it, since I know that seeing someone write some code is not the most entertaining thing to watch.
Recently I also did start a new project, which I hoped to do using Micronaut and Gradle, but that didn't go very well, so I switched back to Spring and Maven. I do however intend to use Svelte for the front-end, since that seems to be a trendy new framework.
For 2025, I hope that I can realise some of these projects and feel some accomplishment rather than that they are just a waste of time. But only time will tell. I wish everyone a happy 2025 with all the best for your projects and goals.
