# AI - My Thoughts

In the previous blog post I mentioned the cases when and how I use AI in my work. I also mentioned that I probably should try to use it a bit more since it is become more useful and more powerful. In this blog post, I want to describe my thoughts about AI.

To make it clear from the start, I am not against AI, but AI comes in many forms. In the past AI was very basic, think for instance of the basic AI in early games, or the chess computers. AI has gotten more powerful, up to the level where chess computers can beat any human and even in go it has become a master. All of these AIs are however specialised in a single field, and we never tried to use them for anything else, nowadays with the rise of ChatGPT the story has changed.

ChatGPT is a language model and thus focusses on understanding language, but there doesn't seem to be much focus on what type of tasks it can actually do for you. It can generate text and even images, but it can also lookup information. The problem I have with this idea is that you are asking a single machine to do different types of tasks. When I ask for information or news, I want it to give me accurate information, same when I ask it to summarise a document. If I however ask it to create a song or images, it does have to be creative, and other tasks are somewhere in between, such as creating an e-mail has to contain facts, but the actual writing should be creative.

Humans are capable of switching contexts because we have 2 parts in our brain. There is the creative part on one side and the logical part on the other. The usage of these parts differ depending on the task. As far as I know, ChatGPT (and other AIs) don't use this approach of having 2 different modes and switch or give different weights to them. I know there is a parameter that you can use to fine-tune the creativity of an AI, but this is not something you as the user has control over and would be difficult to determine if you had. This however means that ChatGPT is an AI trained with a certain level of creativity in it. This makes it understandable that it may be difficult for such a machine to execute a task and not be creative, it is just embedded into its nature.

This brings me to my main point, I understand that you use ChatGPT when you need some creativity (which I consider writing code is part of), but for things where you want hard facts, I don't understand why people use ChatGPT for that. If I want to know details about a specification of something, I don't ask ChatGPT, I lookup the specification. Afterwards you could ask ChatGPT to summarise it or find something relevant to you and get references. Perhaps the last part is the most important thing to do. If you want to get facts out of ChatGPT don't just take them for facts, but ask for references so you can cross-check them.

In the end, I wonder whether we should have one general AI that is responsible for solving all of our tasks, or whether we should have different specialised AIs for each task? Perhaps the one general AI is a natural next step after you have created many specialised AIs that are good at what they do. By combining these AIs you can create a more simple interface and usage to a user.
